John Nelson

John Nelson joined the second tenor section of the Mandskor a dozen years ago, thanks to the urging of fellow singer Ray Ode and director Terry Walter.  When John joined, his wife Margie joined the auxiliary with equal enthusiasm.  Sadly, Margie succumbed to a brain tumor.  John’s current wife Donna is a Dell Rapids native and came into the auxiliary comfortably having known many of the group for years.  John was born and schooled in nearby Brandon.  He is retired from All-American Freight and Stan Houston Equipment and now works as a CPA (certified parking attendant) with Avera McKennan Hospital’s valet parking.  He has sung with the local Elk’s Chorus and the Shrine Chanters as well as the Sr. Choir at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.  For a time, both a son and grandson sang with him in the Mandskor.

His hobbies include woodworking and flowers.  John has 3 sons and a daughter and an array of Nelson grandchildren since daughter Susan married a Nelson.   His hobbies include woodworking and flowers.  He says his years of singing have been “great!”
